Today’s post answers a question that I get asked all the time: how do you organize your makeup and jewelry? And to be honest, I kind of avoided the question for a long time because the answer was basically, I don’t organize them. Not exactly helpful.
But I finally got tired of the mess and invested in some nice storage for makeup and jewelry–and let me tell you, it makes a world of difference when I’m getting ready in the morning. If you’re wondering how to organize makeup and jewelry, read on…

Here’s a shot of my bathroom vanity [and my sweet little mini me!] to show my makeup organization. [Blair’s almost 2 and I’m still wearing the robe from my Where to Buy a Cute Hospital Maternity Gown post!]
And to give you an idea of where I started, well…
Yeah. I’d been using that same plastic organizer thing since I was in college [which, for those of you keeping track, was not exactly yesterday]. As you can see, my kids had colored all over it. Plus, it no longer held all of my products anyway, so I always had a random pile of palettes hanging around.
As for my jewelry, it literally lived in a laundry basket that I randomly moved around our closet and laundry room. I basically wore the same few pieces of jewelry every day because it was too much work to dig through to find anything else. Eventually, I forgot what items I even owned.
Much better, yes?
Between Colton heading to preschool this year, Blair in her fair share of activities, and me transitioning from a stay-at-home mom to a work-at-home mom, it’s safe to say mornings have become much more hectic around here than they were when I wrote my last day in the life post.
[Not complaining! It’s a dream come true to have turned blogging into my career. And, honestly, the older my kids get, the easier my mom duties become. But all of these things just make mornings, well, crazy.]
All that to say, however, that the disorganization of my makeup and jewelry added more unnecessary stress each morning. So, I partnered with Gordmans to refresh an area of my home for their #GetPumpedForHeartHealth campaign. When they reached out, I immediately knew I wanted to tackle how to organize makeup and jewelry!
And, if you’ve been following my Instagram Stories, you’ve seen some behind-the-scenes already… including a lot of messes. I always try to keep it real with you!
Blair and I headed to Gordmans one afternoon and picked up lots of storage for makeup and jewelry.
I selected a couple different makeup organizers–you can see this one is slightly different than the one in the photo above. Gordmans had these in multiple colors, but I’m on a major bright white kick lately [remember my recent master bedroom redo?] so I stuck with the white.
The first step of organizing my makeup was to purge items I don’t use frequently. I tossed several items that were expired or that I simply don’t reach for often.
Mom hack: while purging my makeup collection, I set aside several items that aren’t too messy [lip balm, brushes, sponges, neutral eyeshadows, etc.] in a makeup bag for Blair to play with while I apply my own makeup in the morning.
Then, I grouped similar items together for my own storage–keeping all my eye palettes together, for instance, lets me easily see my options each day.
As for how to organize jewelry, I found this hanging jewelry organizer at Gordmans as well. It actually has pockets on both sides, so I use this side to organize earrings/rings/watches and the other side houses necklaces and bracelets. If/when I grow my collection, I’ll just pick up another of these. It’s amazing how much they can fit!
One of my favorite parts of shopping at Gordmans is the affordability. I can’t believe I waited so long to organize my makeup and jewelry when the storage options are so affordable.
I also love that Gordmans gives back, like how they’re donating to the American Heart Association in honor of the #GetPumpedForHeartHealth campaign this month. Check out Gordmans website for information on in-store events throughout April!
Plus, for every photo posted on Instagram or Facebook using #GetPumpedForHeartHealth during the month of April, Gordmans will donate $1 to support American Heart Association [up to $10,000]. Use the hashtag on your shares this month to help Gordmans give back and raise awareness for heart disease!
