As the weather cools down, many of us find ourselves spending more time indoors. And I don’t know about you, but anytime I’m spending a lot of time inside of my house, I tend to start getting the urge to redecorate. Even though we’ve lived in our home for 12 years, there are still some spaces that I’ve never decorated to their full potential. Lately, I’ve been intrigued with looking for unique wall art for home, and specifically, wall mural wallpaper that can help my builder-grade beige walls seem much more exciting. Today, I’m going to share some of my favorite inspo of wall mural wallpaper with you!
Our first home was built in 1974, and my husband and I purchased it in 2009. It included a lot of the original 1974 wallpaper, plus a few rooms had even been wallpapered over multiple times throughout the years. We spent countless hours stripping the layers of wallpaper and skimcoating the sheetrock so our walls would be smooth again. So, I definitely lived through some wallpaper trauma and had assured myself I would never voluntarily use wallpaper again.
But, wallpaper has come a long way since then, and a lot of the new wall mural wallpaper designs are actually stunning. I love how these wallpaper designs can add a unique, custom touch that looks like a wall mural for a fraction of the price. In today’s economy, I know we are all looking for a way to save some money, right?
The photos in this post are from Photowall, which is one of my favorite spots to search for wall mural wallpaper inspiration. I wouldn’t have necessarily thought of putting the wallpaper on the ceiling, but when I saw this photo, I was sold. It adds such a classy, elevated look to the room that you could never achieve with a plain white ceiling.
One of the things I love most about wall mural wallpaper is all of the creative design choices you can make. Even if two people choose the same wallpaper design, they will install it in different ways (like on the ceiling!) that leave every room looking unique and magazine-worthy.
Personally, I love dark and moody home interiors, so the above design really speaks to me. I could see it being perfect in a home library, sitting room, or office. There’s a lot going on in the wall mural, but the dark and muted colors help keep it from being overwhelming. I also love how the trim color sets off some of the tones included in the wallpaper. Coordinating the trim color is a great finishing touch that really elevates the entire look and makes the room seem much more custom and less builder-grade.
The above example of wall mural wallpaper is absolutely perfect for a young child’s room or a baby nursery. The dinosaur print is so cute, and I love how the green color is a muted green rather than being super bright. This is a great example of adding color to avoid the “sad beige baby” look while not having the room seem chaotic or overwhelming with several bright colors. I know my kids would love this design in their rooms! The attention to detail here is simply excellent.
Finally, this wall mural wallpaper idea may be my favorite one of all. The colors evoke a subtle feeling of sunset and leave room for the viewer to find their own meaning and interpretation of the art. I love having a few colors included in the wallpaper like this, as it gives you an easy jumping off point for adding coordinating accessories to the room. How cute would this wallpaper be in Blair’s room or Alexis’ nursery? Since Alexis is getting older (she’s 2 1/2 now!), I’m looking for some ideas to make her room a bit more of a “big girl room” instead of a nursery.
Of course, there are lots of places to find wall mural wallpaper ideas, and I hope I have inspired you to seek out your own home decor inspiration today. I am loving all of the creative wall mural ideas that I have been able to find online! As much as I sometimes miss flipping through a home decor magazine like I used to do, it’s so great having so many thousands upon thousands of ideas at my fingertips anytime on the Internet.
